Virgin Media: Phone installed for 30 minutes before first scam call

I had a nightmare with marketing/PPI/dialler calls when with Virgin - think they'd recycled the dirtiest number going in terms of being on marketing call lists. I was getting 5-6 a day.
Moved back to BT with a new number - we get 1 or 2 a month.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
So, people who are not with Virgin, Never get theses calls?
Use them for a laugh.....just keep saying "Yes" to every question.
I can truly say, with my hand on my heart, that I have never taken a call like this.
My home phone is with o2. We've had the number for 12 years and o2 have had it for the last four.

I'm with virgin and have been for a while and have never had a call like that. We're TPS and pretty much get no cold calls at all.0

I have two lines, 1st is the original longstanding landline with phone/fax/answerphone, and the 2nd I've had about 7 yrs, is ex-directory and it's used only for my broadband connection (got it originally for ISDN) -- there is a handset on it but no one's ever had the number at all, and I don't ever use it for outgoing calls unless the usual landline's down for some reason (rarely).
The 1st has been registered with TPS for years but I still get a few sale calls a month.
The 2nd must definitely have been a recycled number -- several times judging by the range of names the callers ask for.
Miss Antrobus is top of the list: a wide range of people regularly ask for her, even after 7 years! And when I explain she can't have had the number for this length of time and ask for it to be removed from their list, they invariably say they will (or have done it on the spot, while I've been talking to them) yet still the calls roll in, presumably from mostly different people. I even know her address, or what her address must have been when she had the number: it's in a village up the road. But other names are quite often asked for too, so whether they all had the number at different times, or whether Miss A had loads of other people living with her I've no idea! I often wonder about its history...
Then there's a sweet old dear who also calls occasionally on it, who thinks I'm someone called Pam. She's quite deaf. She's clearly just misdialling sometimes, and we have quite lengthy conversations while I attempt to explain I'm not Pam and she's dialled the wrong number again. She can't hear so we go through it several times, usually at cross-purposes till she gets it straight... and then she asks me what number she should be dialling :rotfl:Bless...~cottager0
