Exchange account on iphone 4s

I am trying o set up an exchnae account on m iphone 4s to enable me to access my emails as i am on virginmedia on my desktop and im having problems
I seem to have got the account open but when i try to log in it says password incorect
I have been googling and come accross this

i dont have a google account and my password is 100 percent correct. can anyone advise ?
the apple shop told me yesterday it was a virginmedia password problem !!!!!

Why are you trying to set up an exchange account for VirginMedia?

Unless I'm much mistaken, the exchange account on an iphone is to use it with a mail server running Microsoft Exchange (hence the name)

Presumably you want to send and receive mail from your iphone using your VirginMedia account, in which case you should select the 'Other Account' type, and enter your full email address as the username, plus your VM password.

If this is not what you're trying to do, please describe exactly what you are trying to do / hope to achieve.

I am not able to send emails on my iphone and the same thing happened to my wifes iphone. The apple shop added an exchange account on her phone and her emails now working. i am trying to do the same.
i have my emails and broadband with virginmedia and can access my virginmdeia account on my desktop but i cant get send or receive emails on my iphone, i am trying to get them via an exchange account.

Have you compared the settings on your wife's iphone to those on yours?

BTW although you don't have a googlemail email address, VirginMedia use the Google mail platform, therefore in theory your VirginMedia email account is a googlemail account

I think we are sorted. thank you, understanding all the technical info is half the battle. i can receive emails and though its taking an age to send one it may have worked. but ill try the whole process again tomorrow if not
