Maturing Santander 2 year fixed account.

Hi,

My wife and I have a 2 year fixed savings account with the Santander ,this is due to mature in a few weeks time.

My wife got a call from someone from Santander telling us this and saying that we had to make an appointment to come in and see someone at the branch to discuss what we wanted to do with our money then.

She told him during this call that we would want it put into our current account(not with Sandander)

He said that we still had to make an appointment,is this correct or are they going to try and talk us into a new account with them when we get there?

You don't HAVE to discuss it with the staff, but it might be helpful. You will also receive a letter through the post telling you your options. If you do nothing, it will automatically go into a 'Reward' account which pays I believe 2.75% if you leave it for a year (then drops off) - you can withdraw from this at any time, eg to your current account, with no penalty but peanuts interest. Or you give them instructions of what to do, eg put it into another of their accounts or withdraw it - I think you can also do that over the 0845 phone.

Just transferred my maturing 1 year into one of their 2 year ones, seems a pretty competitive interest rate.
