hi folks
last week I moved into a private let. I need to get the phone on, which essentially I dont need as I have a great mobile contract with Orange (600 anytime/network mins, unlimited landline calls and free insurance for £5 a month.
Problem is, I want to take advantage of the free broadband offer from Orange, well, not the free one as its only 2mb and capped but if I pay an extra £5 I get up to 8mb and unlimited downloads.
But I MUST have a BT line to do so.
Now, I have checked and there is a BT socket already installed in the house which as far as Im aware only needs reconnected from their end (according to the estate agents) and should cost nothing but having read a number of threads here Im seeing ppl having to pay £125. Money I am short of just now having just paid a hefty deposit and 2 months rent up front.
So basically Im looking for advice on this, if there is a fee, any way round it etc. It seems absolutely ridiculous they could charge this kind of moneyt just to hit a button and turn the line back on but who knows, maybe this wont apply.
Any advice is greatly sought as I need to get this done asap as I need my internet connection up n runnin asap. The phone I couldnt care less about as I will never use it but just need the BT line for the Orange BB.
Thanks a lot in advance

Providing someone else who has lived at the flat before has had BT,and the BT socket and the wiring are still in situ, you would usually qualify for free reconnection. They will always say when you phone them that a reconnection fee may apply to cover their backs,in case wiring etc has been removed/damaged. Call them on 0808 100 7722 and they will give you more info.
If no one has had BT service there before (Even though a BT socket exists), a full connection fee will apply. You can pay by 4 instalments to help your cashflow.
Cheapest tariff for your needs BT Opt 1 , £10.75p a month by d/d if you elect for online billing.0
