That's a matter of opinion and all my attempts at DIY have ended in disaster, so I prefer not to take the chance any more. If it was that simple then no one would ever pay a plumber to do it and I'm sure that loads of people do.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

Loads of people pay "tradesmen" to do lots of things that with an iota of common sense and a moiety of patience they could easily do themselves.
I'm not a plumber, have no plumbing training, and I can replace a tap easy-peasy.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Sounds like me! i have a mono tap ready to be changed on my sink. after waiting months for someone to do it I thought I'd try myself as I did pillar taps ok before, the new one doesn't seem like the old one and it's hard to see up behind the sink. I switched the water off and tried but eventually gave up, then struggled to get the water back on. All pipes are now banging when I turn taps off, and there's a slight leak somewhere . mentioned it to a customer at work. " oh you need a special tool to get them sort out"

I recently fitted a lovely new mono kitchen tap, it did need a special tool, it's called a "spanner".
Sometimes you need a special "spanner" because you can't get in there with a conventional "spanner".
Something like this:

Or this:

They are slightly cheaper than a plumber.Je suis Charlie.0 -

:rotfl:
I have in the past fitted taps and a cistern plus various other plumbing jobs. Is a basin wrench the same as a box spanner? I have plenty of tools here but none fit this thing. Two people, one online one off have told me two different things to buy.
Oh and I fitted a garden tap once, worked perfectly but when a plumber came and I stupidly mentioned it he said he'd report me to someone or other as I hadn't followed the rules and regs. :rotfl:
After reading this http://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/monoblock.htm I will await a plumber, I saw the "fiddly" word and that's me out!

Could also try it with a socket set, although it might not fit as sockets are a bit fatter than box spanners.Je suis Charlie.0
