She signed nothing!0 -
Just report them to everyone you can think of:
HMRC
NMW http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Employees/TheNationalMinimumWage/DG_10027201
Council - Health and Safety Dept
Local paper etc0 -
I am going to wait for his reply but I will take the matter further, regardless of what he says.0

Good for you! You may save other kids from being exploited.weight loss target 23lbs/49lb0

So he replied saying they do not use cheap labour, he said they are the best in the business because they win awards and have a different attitude to other businesses etc
He invited me to meet with him and to bring my daughter along so he can explain why he let her go.
He said they do not train them up on fire, health and safety, food and hygiene until they are trained in the other areas first .....like taking orders and cooking food!!! Ermmmmm obviously that's how you do it!
He said how I'm not the first parent to contact him about this kind of thing........so there you have it!
I replied and declined to meet him saying it would serve no purpose, I told him I'm aware there is no training to cook the food. I was shocked that my daughter had to guess when the chicken was ready for the chicken burgers, no timer used, no thermostat used. I told him I will be contacting all relevant authorities...health and safety etc. I also addressed his claim that they are the best in the business and used M&S as an example, saying they say they are the best but it didn't stop them from using sweat shops!
His last reply basically said he no longer wished to keep this line of communication open, he thought I had a genuine interest why they let my daughter go.0 -
If you were so suspicious from the start, why did you let your DD do it? I'm sure that BK and McDonalds have similar ways of working for their new staff. Workers have few rights until they have been established in employment for 2 years, tbh I think you're over-reacting and should just to put this down to experience. It's upto a small business owner how they run their concern, I'm sure if they found staff they wanted to hang onto they would.
But I agree a H&S inspection is in order.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Certainly not when I worked there as a teenager. You got your clocking in number on your first day and you were paid from the minute you stepped into the kitchen in your uniform, even though you'd be in 'training' for a day or two.
As it should be, although I won't claim they were perfect employers in every way!
I would definitely take it further OP. Its terrible that some people are taking advantage of the fact that young people are so desperate for any job these days.0 -

Is this him being contradictory? I'd keep his email as proof and send it to the council Health and Safety team
No thermostat and no timer would be of interest to them0 -

For a start I "let" my daughter do it because she is 17, not 2 years old! And, she has to learn her way, not mine! I did warn her from the start but she insisted it would be ok.......
BK and Mcdonalds do not treat their staff this way, I can assure you of that. Having worked there myself a long, long time ago, and I know people who have children who work there, they are properly trained and they have a contract!
That's fine if you think I'm over reacting. But I think a small business exploiting young people is very wrong and something should be done about it.0
