MacBook Pro trackpad broken

Options
Although I can still scroll etc, the clicker on my trackpad has stopped working. Fortunately I can use my mouse so can get round this problem, but I obviously need to get it fixed.

Anyone have any idea how quick and how much it will cost. Unfortunately I didn't take out the extended warranty so will need to foot the bill myself :(

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi. I'm not clued up on Macs, but can you not buy a cheapy wireless mouse. I don't get on with the track pad thing at all and have a mouse connected via wireless. Just a thought.
Just re-read and see you have a mouse. OOops!

Also have a look at this. May be just as simple, on the other hand. :-)

How far outside warranty are you?

Hi, thanks for replies & link to youtube. Unfortunately I'm not technical minded enough to try to fix the trackpad myself....but it was very interesting.

My warranty ran out >1.5 years ago so not much I can do here.

Think I'll take my machine into the Apple Shop so see what they say.

    Cheers.

Certainly worth taking it to the Apple store, they might repair it for nowt. You could mention sale of goods act if you don't have any luck.

As above take it to the store and they might repair it, do a search on the net for any "known" issues with the model you have just to see if it throws anything up.

Looks like your computer is 2.5 yrs old. I'd expect the trackpad to last longer than this, regardless of any 1 yr warranty. Book an appointment with a 'Genius' at the store and tell them what it is. You may have to push to get it fixed FOC.
If not, I've repaired one myself. You can get them quite cheap on eBay, and it's easy enough (intructions for disassembly of your particular model on ifixit.com ) apart from one teeny tiny screw and a bit of adjustment needs done. And you need to make sure you have the right screwdrivers too, and a steady hand!

You can also change the settings so that when you tap on the trackpad it responds as a click.
