ABS light on - can I still drive it?

I assume it's generally not suggested but after having a front wheel bearing changed on my mk3 Mondeo my abs light has come on on my dash and I'm assuming it's the sensor.
Would it be okay to drive it for a few days until a new sensor is fitted?
(Need to bear in mind that my daily journsy involves a 50 odd mile round trip on the motorway)
Does the rest of the braking system function normally in this case?

Appreciate any advice

Did you change the whole unit or just press-out, press-in a new bearing? If the latter, chances are you've fitted the bearing the wrong way round.

Just the basic press out one as its a front bearing.

Good point-I will check the fitment

Safe to drive, light on means ABS wont work if needed.

    +1 about fitting it backwards.

The black ring on one of the bearings is magnetic for the ABS sensor to read.

Cheers for the replies guys-I've double checked the bearing fitment and its the right way in but noticed that it was seeping grease onto the sensor?
Didn't notice anything when fitting it but gave it all a good clean up,refitted everything but the light still came on after a while.

I'm starting to think that maybe the ABS ECU is retaining the original error code and needs resetting?

Just thinking out loud for now bu twill get a diagnostic done I think before changing any parts

You can drive it just means you have standard brakes and not ABS

I had this as a recurring problem on my old Peugeot 307. Took it back to Main dealer several times. Expensive and useless-kept telling me there was no obvious fault but they'd cleared the dust away. The final straw was when I collected it after they'd "fixed" the fault and a mile down the road the light came back on.
Changed to an independent Pug specialist and had no more problems.
