Settled Claim

Hi all,
Last month I had a wing mirror collision with TP. Even though I was overtaking a long line of parked cars and the TP (an off duty police woman apparently) decided to on-come towards me, my insurers (Bell) said it was my fault.
After making a complaint, Bell remain firm that I was in the wrong and paid out to the TP in less then 3 days. I have reimbursed Bell with the £15 they paid out. They reinstated my NCB and have closed the claim.
Question is: when searching for insurance do I still have to declare this claim?
Many thanks,
Chris

My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

Yes you still have to disclose the accident claim. Suggest that you ask Bell, how the claim has been closed off in regard to CUE. CUE is the central Insurers database, where the closed off claims info will appear. You need to know this, so you can properly disclose the info to any new Insurers. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

Thanks for getting back to me Huckster. I have been informed "[FONT="]...the claim has been closed as 'No Claim'. The incident will be record, with no claim made on your policy."

Well that being the case, just report it to future Insurers as an 'incident', by providing the information, as given by the Insurers. That way, when the Insurers run your info through their systems, they will also see the 'incident' on CUE and it will be seen that you have given the correct information. The comments I post are personal opinion. That's good. Many insurers/comparison sites have a "For notification only" option. As long as it's clearly marked as a claim which did NOT affect your NCB and the claim costs were £0, it shouldn't effect premiums. Thanks for getting back to me Huckster. Which comparison website has 'for notification only'? Moneysupermarket has an 'other/unknown/miscellaneous' option. I assume that's the option I would chose right? My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.0

"accident - at fault" seems to fit the bill nicely. You did have an accident, you were clearly at fault (you paid out to the third party) £0 paid by the insurer. Didn't affect your ncd.</p>0 -
How long was the queue of parked cars? How far along were you at the time of the impact? Should it have been possible to see the TP approaching prior to you starting to pass the parked cars? Presumably you were straddling the centre line?0

The queue was about 4 or 5 cars long. I was half way through the queue of parked cars at the moment of the TP approach. No, the TP was not in sight the moment I started the maneuver of overtaking the parked cars and yes I was in the middle of the centre line. I explained this to my insurer. However, I was told as there were no witnesses it was my word against hers so they were happy to quickly accept fault to my dismay. My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.0

4 or 5 cars is only about 20 to 25 metres, if there wasn't any gap to pull back into. If you managed to go 10 metres in before she appeared, and you hadn't seen her when you started, what blocked your view?0
