selling off ebay...

hi

I listed an item for 7 days it ended yesterday with no bids.
I have had a message this morning from someone offering me the starting price + postage to be paid by a personal payment through paypal. Its £60 and a UK address and not really a scam type item.

If I send it to the address on paypal, is there a lot that could go wrong, for me?

No, if they send as a personal payment rather than goods the risk is all theirs.
If goods, then the protection will be the same as any transaction.
For £60 sale, make sure you send it special delivery or courier if it's large. Ordinary post will only cover you for £46.

If you receive a gift payment on Paypal the senders address does not appear, there is no need as you should not be sending any goods!
Having said that the risk is entirely on the buyers not on you.

If you would honour returns, non-received issues etc. (which I'm sure anyone posting here would) anyway then it's academic, but I wouldn't do this - purely from a point of ethics.

I would do the right thing and ask the buyer to pay by a method that gives them some protection. It's also a bit off of you because Paypal don't particularly like sellers trying to evade fees if they are selling goods.

For sure, I sent a heavy package I'd advertised as collection only after receiving a PP gift and negotiating a deal with the buyer. No problems at either end, I used a courier.
