Facial Wrinkles

Hi,
I'm 41 and up until last month, never gave a second thought to wrinkles, always assuming they were far away in the future.
However, three weeks ago I won a competition in my local paper and have been sent £400 of very posh beauty products. My teenagers beneffited from the perfumes, make-up and daft stuff and I was left with some very expensive looking facial products.
The cheapest looking one is an Olay Regenerist syrup and it ranges right up to something with actual Bee Venom in!!!!!!
This caused me to study my face closer and my goodness, I have crepey eyes and a wibbly wobbly bit under my chin.
Previously, my regime consisted of "Simple" moisturiser on face and neck after shower in morning and before applying powder and mascara. Nothing in the evening (Nope, not even removal of powder and mascara
)
Does anyone around here actively fight their wrinkles? Do these products work any better than a simple moisturiser? Has anyone tried Bee Venom?
I'm almost scared to start using them because if I get a decent result, I'd have to finance the damn thing myself in the future and I DEFINITELY can't justify that cost

Hello, I'm 43 and have been using Elemis Pro Collagen Marine Cream for about 7 years and can definitely tell the difference when I don't use it. Most people when guessing my age put me at about 38 so it must make a difference! It's expensive as a 30ml pot costs £48.00 RRP but as everyone on here knows there are :money: ways to get our favourite products cheaper and I have never paid this full price for it. The majority of the time I buy it in a kit with other items usually from QVC when the value is exceptional. I either use the other items, give as gifts or sell on the bay.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

I'd say no to assuming pricier is better, it's been proven that the likes of Creme De La Mer has comparable ingredients to a much cheaper face cream (I'd have to find a link)..
The best topicals for anti-aging are, sunscreen (of course, I'm currently using and liking the new Olay Complete Care SPF30 which is a fiver in Asda at the moment), Vitamin C in the morning (under SS) and Retin-A at night (though most people have to ease themselves into using Retin-A, it can make you very flaky in the beginning).
In younger skin, lines can be a result of dehydration, and at any age it shows up on our faces. As does diet.
Make sure you're getting plenty of liquids and listen to your skin. My skin seems to really like cheapo aqueous cream when it's dry (and it's good to use after a skin peel).
I also do TCA peels and the like at home but you really have to do your research with those, and buy them somewhere reputable; lots of horror stories of some ebay sellers selling stronger percentages.
I try to avoid jars or pots of creams, and use pump-action bottles whenever I can, as fingers tend to spread more germs and make potions go off more quickly.
The Oil Cleansing Method is worth looking into if you suffer from clogged pores..I think it's amazing.0 -
I'm like you, OP, - I never gave it a 2nd thought until recently!
At the moment I am trying out a few sample size products, as the normal ones are so-oo pricey and I don't want to be paying £££s only to find they don't suit my skin.
I'm also facing the problem that I can't have anything that might make my skin spotty, and a lot of these anti-ageing products are quite oily. (You'd think, wouldn't you, that no-one would get spots and lines/wrinkles :rotfl:)
The ones I've tried so far are:
Boots No7 Protect&Perfect serum, - seems good, it just puts a layer of serum on the skin to keep it supple, I guess.. I've found it can cause spots, though!
Green People Day solution SPF15 moisturiser
nice stuff, and not too many nasties in it, but just feels like a suncream and has a heavy-ish chalky texture.
Olay total effects 7 in one moisturiser
is ok.. feels just like a normal moisturiser tbh, and not sure it'll do much to firm the skin or prevent more lines.
I'll be interested to see if anyone's got any other recommendations0 -
I bought an Elemis Pro Marine kit a few years back and I noticed not a bit of difference in my skin, so I suppose everyone's different.
There's some good skincare sites on the net, though they can veer towards quite obsessive and even scientific studies get discussed often.
I post on them sometimes (I'm non-obsessive and non-scientific, honest, haha!). www.essentialdayspa.com/forum and www.skincaretalk.com/f/0 -
I moisturise, and when I'm not going out, smooth over my face and body a mixture of olive oil, sunflower oil, with a couple of drops of helichrysum essential oil, and maybe some rose essential oil.
If you look up helichrysum (also known as immortale), it is used in overpriced products, and all you need is a couple of drops. 10ml has lasted me for over a year. As a bonus, I love the smell.
I'm 41, and often get mistaken for about 28. Although I don't think I look like I did when I was 28, and am not impressed by my jowl area. It's definitely NOT good and I would like to tighten it up, but don't know how.0 -

I found this article from the Indie helpful when I was doing a bit of on-line research into anti-ageing products:
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/antiageing-creams-what-really-works-431422.html
It's quite an old article now (2007) but I think most of what it says will still be relevant. It tells you a bit about various ingredients (eg antioxidants, coenzyme Q10..) and what products they are found in.
I think basically, though, how well your skin ages is probably down to a bit of genetic luck.. oh and using sunscreen0 -
I don't bother with anti ageing creams. I am 46 and I could tell you I look young for my age, but obviously you won't know if I am telling the truth or deluding myself. Of course I have some signs of ageing, but that is natural. I wash with aqueous cream, I use a moisturiser with SPF in the summer and I don't smoke.0

I'm 43 and don't use any moisturisers. I give my face a quick wash in the shower and use a Lush face mask when in the bath which is around once a week. When I tell people my age they are usually really surprised as I look much younger. A salesman recently assumed I was well under 40. He was telling me that it was his big birthday soon and I had passed a comment about my 40th. The look of shock on his face was really funny.
My mum is 82 and looks in her 60s. From being in her early 20s she has used Pond's Cold Cream to take off her makeup and an Olay moisturiser (not one of the expensive ones). The only thing which gives her age away slightly is her walking stick. She still looks after my 3 children once a week, so is pretty fit as well as looking young for her age.
I think it might be in the genes.:)0
