laptop for itunes for £250?

Options
Hi everyone

I have a teeny tiny budget of just £250 - can't justify spending more with a baby on the way. Currently have a netbook but want something bigger to put itunes on - had to get rid of our 10 year old desktop which had the itunes on it and don't really want to slow the netbook down... plus its my husbands and he thinks i'll break it if i put itunes on it?!

i've seen these today

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOSHIBA-C6...item4d011953e3

any thoughts?

Can anyone recommend any particular cheap brands? thanks in advance

I also have a 250gb external hard drive from the departed laptop for photos and the like so will only be using this for itunes and browsing... no time for anything else with a toddler and 1 on the way!

1 program that doesn't run at startup, and some music data wont slow a machine down.

If the netbook hard disk is too small for all your music, the cheap way is to upgrade the internal hard disk.

Important photo's (esp with baby on the way) should ideally be held in 2 places (at least) if possible, with an extra copy on dvd for safety. If everything is on the external hard disk, it could fail leaving you with nothing.

If you're not bothered about 'new' then you could get a refurbished laptop from eBay for a little over £50. I've bought a few & they're fine for browsing & keeping my iPod up to date.

    Edit.

Just noticed your link to an eBay refurb.

All the laptops I've bought have Windows XP though some are good enough to run Windows 7.

They're all IBM/Lenovo models T43 & T60 with metal casing. Helps make them a bit more 'kid proof' too.

I run my itunes account from a 1st generation netbook and have no problems with it (well apart from itunes being rubbish but a new computer won't fix that).

If you are finding it's a problem then it's more likely it's other stuff on the computer that needs sorting out.

I'd use the £250 for something else

The problem isn't the netbook, its more the husband not wanting me to put itunes on it because he thinks it'll knacker it out!

You are right about that, so a new netbook would do the job.

This Asus is a decent little machine for £210:

You might as well go for one of the Toshibas in your OP.

It's as good a make as any, and I don't think you'll get anything else significantly cheaper.

iTunes runs fine on my MSI Wind netbook...my iTunes library is just under 100Gb.
I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

My husbands is an MSI Wind U200... he is now coming round to the idea that itunes is not so evil...
