Bungalow choices?

A complete bungalow renovation in mind; what's best, loft conversion or extension, for an extra bedroom + en-suite? Both in terms of hassle and cost, value for money and potential value increase?

The property is sort-of village-y and would be applicable to both families (good school nearby) and older residents.

Any thoughts people?

I always think bungalows appeal to people for certain reasons - generally better plot area, and lack of stairs obviously. An extension wouldn't put off people who buy for the latter reason.

Having said that I've seen some great loft conversions, but I would extend if it isn't putting the garden space at risk (ie. bungalows also appeal to an older demographic, whose emphasis on gardens tends to be much higher than the younger buyers)

Would probably be dictated by what the local planners deem acceptable in the area, particularly if its rural!

I think if you have the choice, ie, planning allows, then the extension route is the way to go.
That would add the greatest value to your property at resale if that's the intention.

The lost conversion, and I have done my own present bungalow, effectively converts the bungalow into a house, whether that reduces or increases the number of potential buyers I wouldn't like to say.

The loft conversion is likely to be much cheaper, and as said will not encroach on exterior space but is likely to lose you 1 bedroom or a serious amount of space from another room. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
