If she has arthritis in her hands, wrists or any part of her shoulder, even on reins, one sharp tug and her toddler could be in the road.

So attach the reins to a belt around her waist and use her hands (when she can) to guide the child when necessary. I don't understand why keeping control of your child - especially when there is traffic around - should be so difficult - there is always a solution.

She's clearly struggling with a difficult situation and doing the best she can to make things safe by parking in designated safe places for parents and popping her kids straight into the trolley.

But she's not popping them straight in a trolley - she's already said that she has to "struggle" with them to get to a trolley (see quote below)

I'm not sure what sneering at her parenting does, other than make you feel superior for being fully able bodied.

I don't have arthritis by the way, but my parents both do, and it is a debilitating condition which greatly reduces the strength of the joint it attacks.

I wasn't sneering - I merely offered a solution - why do you have such a problem with that??

You don't know that I am fully able bodied or what health issues I do have to contend with. I am, however, fully aware of the implications of arthritis and don't need you to explain it for me - thanks.

Please feel free to take my kids shopping with you for the day.

Find a space that hasn't been parked in by somebody who has no need of extra space. We all have to find a space - I take my 87 year old MIL out every week and often have to wait until a disabled space becomes available.

Then decide whether to struggle with a baby and a young toddler to where the suitable trollies are (usually a long way away from where the normal trollies are). We all have to walk to get a trolley. Where we shop the P&C spaces are closer to the store (and the trolleys) than the disabled spaces.

Then hold onto the toddlers hand while putting a wriggling baby into the trolley and fastening it with one hand. I've already offered a solution to that - reins.

Or you could leave two kids in the car and hope nobody steals the car while you leave them for 5 minutes to get a suitable trolley. Oh please!!

And when I have accidentally scratched your car as I have to access both sides of my car to get the kids in I'm sure you will find claiming on my insurance totally unnecessary?! What is unnecessary is this sort of petulant, foot-stamping threat.

To go back to the original post - I think they absolutely should charge extra for the spaces. If they make it a high enough charge maybe I'll stop parking in them ;).

They cannot make you pay to use a specific space!

Parent+child spaces do not exist, they are not reserved for specific users or enforcable!

It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

No I can agree that they don't always get it right, but you can't tar every car park as being the same. Most car parks that I use have disabled spaces right next to the door and I always notice as my Daughter has a blue badge so we use these spaces often.

Well I have seen many instances where p and c spaces are nearer to the door than the disabled, in fact that is the case in most of the car parks I use which is ridiculous.

If you look back on this thread, you will see that I posted about this regarding Tesco in Prescot. The disabled spaces are some distance from the store, whilst the P&C spaces are directly outside. The store and the head office are not interested.

Also, please stop posting abbreviations of offensive phrases. It isn't necessary.

So it's ok for him to say I'm having sex with his daughter on a lawn and calling me a moron, but not OK for me to call him a son of a !!!!!?

Bit more than a handy convenience.
Have you tried getting a small child in and out of a car seat with the sizes of parking spaces these days? It's impossible in some car parks. Difficult enough to get yourself out without banging the next car door.

Once kids can get themselves into a car seat, the need for them mostly goes away. But until then I think they are an essential in alot of car parks.
What year was it that car parking spaces started to shrink?

I think, judging by my local Asda and Sainsburys, is that the main problem with all parking spaces including P+C is that people can't park properly! Cars are more manoevrable in reverse, since I learned to reverse park and practised I can squeeze into the tiniest of spaces!

I have seen someone with a pushchair park (wonky) on the white line between two spaces declaring "I'm a parent, I DESERVE this extra space... she came back to find a motorcycle parked on one side (narrow space between car and wall) and a car parked so close on the other side she couldn't get in! If she'd been a bit nicer I might have helped, instead I laughed.

And I still maintain don't expect me to bend over backwards for you. Having sprogs is a choice. Being disabled is not...make the blue badge spaces close and stick the P+C spaces in the quiet area at the back of the car park.

I wonder if these car parks that have the disabled spaces far away from the door are to stop people parking in them who aren't disabled but who are just popping in to the shop and can't be bothered to walk. At my local Asda the disabled spaces are right outside the door, but due to there being 4 cashpoints right next to the door people are forever parking up to use them even when not disabled.

I must admit though to never having seen a supermarket car park where the disabled spaces are far away and the parent and child are right by the door.

Not all disabled badge holders need to be very close to the store, my daughter has a badge and all I need is the extra space to get her and her equipment out, obviously not the case for all and some do need to be close the store.

At the end of the day all disabled and parent and child spaces are unenforceable in a private car park so not much can be done to stop people parking anywhere they like.

I always put the car seat on the drivers side which allows you to park slightly off centre and gives some extra room on one side. Older children can climb over out of the same door too. Obviously you have to be wary not to go overboard or the car next to you can't open the door :)

What if you have more than one small child?
