Hi mrsbudget. I've just bought a Sony Handycam DCR-HC24E camcorder from Sainsburys £199.99 reduced to £149.99. I have'nt got round to trying it yet(need some mini dv tapes) but I've read good reviews about it.

    Here's some of the features

    20X optical zoom
    touch panel lcd screen
nightshot plus(for recording in dark areas)
    Carl Zeiss lens
USB cable for connection for transfering video to PC
    editing software for PC
AV cable for connection to TV

    Hope this helps.

I'm happy with the Sony camcorder. Tried it this afternoon. The advantage with the Sony over the Samsung is the touch panel lcd screen. It makes navigating through all the menus a breeze. The Samsung has got 33X optical zoom in its favour. Personally I'd go for the Sony but it depends on your budget at the end of the day. Both are good value. Has that made it even more difficult to choose? :-)

Here's a link for cheap mini dv tapes as well

When I was in Argos today I saw a DVD camcorder reduced to £199. I can go and found out more details about it tomorrow if you like. It was on a shelf behind the serving area, so I can not find details of it online.

It was the big Sainsburys at Oldbury but I would think this offer is available at other large Sainsburys across the country.
