Is there a cheaper ticket other than the monthly pass at 240 for commuting to Crewe?

A monthly pass is £212.80 - Piccadilly to Crewe
Virgin Trains do the same thing at £160.20 but only valid on their (?hourly?) service.
Where is £240 from? Evidently not Piccadilly0 -

Also an exact calendar month is not best value, unless you use the ticket at weekends. Buying the tickets to last typically 5 working weeks (but taking into account bank holidays, annual leave etc) is best.0
