Help with Libre Office

How do I put accents on letters? I sometimes write in French and always add the accents with a pen. When I ask how to do accents I get this:
To type characters with accent marks:
Choose Show Keyboard Viewer from the Input menu in the menu bar (looks like a flag or character).
But where is Show Keyboard Viewer? None of the visible icons do it and there is no flag.

Figment

View > Toolbars > Insert

then click on the Special Character button (looks a bit like a 4 leaf clover. It's next to ABC button on mine)

Footnote: the funny clover-like symbol appears on Apple keyboards and is roughly analogous to the Windows Key.

Other viable options:

• Use the Character Map
• Change keyboard layout to United Kingdom Extended and acquaint yourself with the [AltGr] key.

If you download and install a French dictionary for the spell-checker, will it recognise (and even autocorrect) unaccented words into the accented versions? Depends how quick you are at touch-typing accents.
