Paying council tax with credit card.

Hello all,
I'm "slow stoozing" with my natwest your points credit card, which ofcourse involves trying to put most spending on it (apart from companies who gives dicounts for DD, mortgage payment, etc, etc).
The council tax is one such monthly payment whch doesn't give any benefits/discounts paying it via DD. First off is it possible to pay council tax with a credit card? The councils website doesn't accept credit cards so would it be the same over the counter?
If they do then would be classed as a purchase (therefore attracting the 0% rate)?
Many thanks!:rotfl:
Richard.

Not sure about counter service but I pay mine online or by telephone with credit card, that's Nottingham city though. I guess some councils accept credit card payments and some don't. You'd have to ring up and ask regarding the counter service. It just shows up as a purchase, I've been doing this for months on a Halifax Clarity Rewards card and now on a 0% Barclaycard.0

I think most councils accept credit card, mine does.
Try looking online, or phone them to find out. Good luck with the stoozing!0 -
Council dependent but I pay mine by credit card, Huntingdonshire district. It is classed as a purchase and I get yourpoints too!0

Last week I wasn't thinking instead of my usual 126 I paid the whole lot on my aqua 3% card. !!!!!. 1260.
Called the council, sent me a BACS refund. Happy days.0 -
But like dvla, many councils charge a 2.5% fee for credit card payments.0
