Are you highly qualified in the job you were trained for ? Hands on skills

Options
So many people in the UK , have worked really hard , gained the training and have so much skill to offer only to find they are unemployed while contracts in the UK are being awarded to EU countries..
Here's my VENT ..
while these people are unemployed the Government are still awarding contracts to other EU countries when we are capable of servicing these contracts ourselves using the people here who have proven skills..
When the heck are our Government going to respect the workforce they have at their fingertips in the UK and support them instead of burying their heads in the sand and expect that in the UK jobs avaliable are in a service industry only ..
Rant ended :o

  • The govt have to award the contract to the most economically favourable bidder (with some exceptions - no history of fraud etc!). If our tenders are not attractive, they will not win the contract. Unfortunately the knock on effects for UK workers in terms of unemployment is not something that forms part of the decision making process.

Until they are all claiming unemployment benefits?
Surely the Government for this country should take into account the benefits their electors . who put them in their jobs, would gain while considering these tenders?

Do you buy British made goods whenever possible or do you buy what you consider good value?

    The same applies.

Tenders & contracts usually go to those who produce the product or service to the best level possible for the best price.
Most British people still buy cheap products made by people working for appalling wages & in terrible conditions in the East. If we bought homemade stuff then more jobs would become available over here.

It works both ways. We can't keep blaming anyone & everyone else for everything.

You don't get it do you? The tendering process is dictated by the EU, the govt cannot make up the rules as they go along!

Oh come on .. if all the red tape was removed for small businesses in the UK then they would have a chance to compete .
    As for cheap imports?
How come our Government is so happy to accomodate these while paying millions in unemployment benefits because we in the UK can't create jobs?

Can I suggest that rather than venting about something you do not understand, you spend your time learning about the EU principle of free movement, market forces, the public procurement process and so on?

If all these skilled people you talk about are prepared to work at the same level of pay as they are in some of the far eastern countries, then they could be employed.
Unfortunately these skilled people seem to have priced themselves out of the market.

    Two points here...
    1) the Government, remember you and I elected them, are happy to buy things that are cheap. Infact you and I demand that they do so.
Did you not read post #4?
    2) the UK can't create jobs because all these 'skilled people' demand too much money.

Sorry .. I may have a simplistic non informed view but at least I have the courage to ask for others opinions .. even at the risk of looking stupid ,
As for people demanding too much money?
Does this not reflect on the cost of living which is dictated by our Government .. banks etc.. sorry I am just asking

No, it is because we have come to expect certain things as the norm - Sky, laptops, mobile phones etc. I know someone that told the Jobcentre he would not work for less than £20,000 because that was his human right ... and he genuinely believed it!

Have a Google of the terms I mentioned above - makes for interesting reading. ;)
