Do you need to sign and return the switching form even if you requested the switching service online during application? A week or so after applying online I received a letter saying they have started the switch and it would take 3-4 weeks. 6 weeks later nothing has switched over.
Typically, they announced the £100 switch offer a week after I applied!

Just wondered if there is a catch & how people rate Halifax as a place to hold your main current account?
They have very poor customer service. Four mistakes made in one month on a new account I opened with them and none of them corrected despite complaints. I've had less problems with my old account with RBS who are in the middle of a crisis.
I'll be transferring the new account away from them ASAP.
Oh and I didn't get the £100 bonus either because I opened the account a week too early, just like Pantera Fan.0 -
I have been with them for years and im not impressed with their customer service to be honest. Even my husband is with them and he too had had trouble with them.
However the reward accounts - there are no catches!0 -
There's no need to close your HSBC account.Haven't had any problems with HSBC and have been fairly happy with them, but then I've never given them any trouble either. I'm not thinking of moving through dissatisfaction, just keen to try a special offer, but there's always the worry that maybe there's a downside eg apalling customer service or something, so I thought I'd ask just in case.
If you don't like Halifax once you're with them then you can switch back.0 -
how do.
i changed just for the free ton. i kept my old tsb account as it was registered with amazon, ebay etc and still use both.
no catchs and they transfered all my DD's with no problems.0 -
Just wondered if there is a catch & how people rate Halifax as a place to hold your main current account? My account is always in credit so overdraft fees aren't an issue at the moment and I can pay in £1000 a month.
I've had my main current account with them for about 25 years. I don't think I've ever had any problems, so I've never had any reason to move it. My account is always in credit, so I've never had to bother about overdraft charges.0 -
I've had a Reward Current account since February 2010.
There was a problem setting it up, but I've had that with other new accounts. It was sorted and they paid me £15 in compensation.
I did set up all of the Direct Debits myself in writing, but I always do that, just in case of problems with the payees, especially credit card providers, as I pay the full balance. One set up the DD for the minimum amount (which is to their advantage). When I rang them, they said that I must've asked for it to be set up like that. I then told them that I had a copy of the mandate with the full amount selected. IIRC, I got £10 for that one.
Also, keep the old account open and with enough in it to meet any DDs, in case they're not transferred in time. Again IIRC, that saved one DD from "bouncing" in early 2010.
Anyway, back to the Reward account. As it's not an interest paying account, there's no requirement to keep more money than you need in it. As long as you pay in the £1000 each month (and I transfer funds in from and then back out to my back-up Co-op current account to meet this) you get your £5 each month. So, on an AER basis, it's unbeatable. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I switched to Halifax last year after being with HSBC for 17 years. I am really happy with them and get my £5 eward every month, just dont go overdrawn. They set up all the DDs for me too - no problems. I still have my HSBC account as the bank details were set up on Ebay etc and I just transer money to that account online when I need to.0
