New Exhaust Dropped Off
About 6 months ago my exhaust was blowing so I went to Kwikfit. They had a look and, quite reasonably I think, told me that the rear 2 sections needed replacing and a third "might go next week or could last a year". At least they gave me the option.
I decided to scrimp and just get the 2 necessary sections replaced. Sure enough the third section blew a couple of weeks ago.
Last week I had some tyres replaced (at another retailer) and asked if they could take a look at the exhaust at the same time. I was hoping that I could patch it but wouldn't have been too dismayed if it wasn't possible.
Anyway, I wasn't prepared for what they told me. The rear section has completely dropped off, ripping the second and third sections irreparably (how could I not have noticed that the exhaust pipe was missing?). So I need a new cat-back system which is going to set me back £350.
The work I had done with Kwikfit has a 2 year warranty. Would that include dropping off?
Thanks for any advice.

Just one point, I dunno if its any help.. have a look on ebay to see if you can get a second hand exhaust system for your car.
Alot of breakers list their stuff there.
An aftermarket version might be cheaper than that!:rotfl:0 -
if the problem was caused by the original part left fitted then you dont have a case
if it fell off cos a hanger snapped off or something then maybe you could get em on it but i very much doubt it
try a place like exhaust unlimited or motorfacts for a price on the parts or ask em a decent place to get it done they will advise a good garage £360 for a cat back system is pricey depending on the car you could prob get a life gntee stainless exhaust for that0 -
What type of car is this?£350 seems alot of money to me,i have bought stainless exhausts ,as mentioned by manda, for much less than you are being quoted.Unlike mild steel they will last forever, if they are not damaged or anything like that.
I really think you should have had the whole lot done last time ,as this may well have caused your present problem.I am also puzzled about how much you paid Kwikfit for the 2 parts that they fitted. Was this a similar cost to that you are now being quoted?if not there is something wrong here. There are two sides to every story.

I doubt they will irrepairable...might need a bit of welding to get hangers sorted out. If it was mine it would be back on the car by hook or by crook.
Personally I would take it back to Kwik Fit, it might be their problem, but if it was because of your scrimping!!
The same happened to me last year scrimped on front section only to have the whole exhaust fall off in the pitch black at 2 am in the morning.......you ever tried to fit a whole exhaust in the car!! Mine was a bit bruised and battered but I refitted it no problem.0
