Epson px710w is rubbish

Hi all I bought an Epson "All in one" printer, px710w a year gone March. I use Epson ink (@ 50 quid a set) but I've had nothing but bother with it since I got it. Under warranty I sent it to be head cleaned after I wasted a full set of inks trying to do it myself. Having used it for a short while after that head clean, another of the colour heads blocked. It was just out of warranty and when i rang epson customer support they were not willing to help. I used another full set of inks getting one colour to work. Now..... the yellow has stopped working. It stopped after an ink change on that colour..... no colour at all on the nozzle check pattern, maybe I had a dodgy cartridge so I put in ANOTHER full epson yellow cartridge........ nothing.
This is RUBBISH...... can anyone help me out..... I'll ring epson "Help" desk again, but not expecting much from there.... this forum has always bee helpful in the past...... thanks in advance.... Eric Hall

    If it were me:

Don't bother with Epson if it is out of warranty

    Get a set of these

Around £43 for the above parts, if that is OK I'll post the method for clearing it

After the initial outlay, the cost per equivalent 13ml cartridge will be approx 18p or £1:10 a set. 13 ml is likely to be twice the amount in Epson genuine ones

Hi Santer...... sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Yes I would definately be interested in going down this route...... it still works out cheaper than buying epson ink. Has your printer suffered any blocked head nozzles as a result of using none epson inks. Is there a cheap way of onblocking a head or do I just do head clean after head clean, which obviously uses loads of ink..... oh and thanks for your initial reply..... Eric :-)

Once you have the items above from post 2, remove the coloured plug and the plain plastic plug from each cartridge, fill each of the cartridges with the head flush, replace only the plain plastic plug, install the cartridges in the printer.

You won't need this item if you already have, or can get syringes with a blunt needle

    http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/universal-colour-refill-p-282.html

If you do not have syringes, the ink will be useful if you do have to buy it.

Download purge.zip (59kb) to get these test patterns and others.

    http://www.inksupply.com/purging.cfm

Open the 6 ink pattern, resize it to A4 if possible.

Run a head clean then print the 6 pattern purge sheet

If one or more colours do not show very well, run a couple of head cleans then print the pattern again.

Leave the printer a couple of hours, to let the head flush dissolve hard ink

Run a head clean then print the test pattern

The colours should get weaker the more you print the test pattern, until you print a blank page.

At this point, use the syringe to remove the head flush from the cartridges, don't worry if a couple of drops are left in.

Use the syringe to fill the cartridges with their correct colours, make sure you rinse the syringe and wipe dry between colours.

Once the cartridges are all installed, print the purge pattern a couple of times, the colours should get stronger.

    Print a nozzle check

Please let me know how you get on

I did get ink from ebay and they seemed to block if the printer was not used each day, the seller has gone from ebay now so maybe a lot of people stopped using the inks

Santer's advise seems a good way to proceed.

I have never used original ink apart from that supplied and have used compatible ink from a few companies by recommendation and Amazon/Ebay. This has been on Canon and Epson.

I have only had one problem when one ink tank didn't seem to work. It was full but perhaps it wasn't venting. I replaced it and problem sorted.
