  • Well done on the reduction in your business overdraft.

They are some excellent goals you have set yourself. You seem a very focused person so there is no reason you can't hit them.

    We're right behind you.

    Go for it Caz! :D

  • :bdaycake: Happy belated birthday :bdaycake:

    Glad mr minx redeemed himself!

Really pleased your saddles sold and I'm sure the buyers chuffed to bits with it.

    Have a good weekend :)
  • Turns out I was spot on about the Tesco bill - it came to £102! I've had a quiet afternoon on the sofa because I think I'm going to have to work tomorrow. I've got 35 orders to go on Monday (not a bank holiday up here) already and Saturday is usually my quietest day!
  • It is not bank holiday in Scotland but the Post Office and Royal Mail are usually closed.

    Take the day off. ;)

  • Nope, James at the post office is open as normal and I think Steve the postman is working too! I got 30 packed up and left the rest :) And then fell asleep on the sofa.

I forgot to mention that I got my annual risk free spread bet for my birthday again. I have a spread betting account with Spreadex (long story, but I won it in a competition, it's not something I would have opened myself under normal circumstances) and every year on my birthday they've sent me an email saying that for one day only they'll underwrite any trading losses up to a maximum of £50. This year it was extended to 2 days, so I did my usual £1 a point buy bet on the FTSE100 with a guaranteed stop loss set at 45 points. Day one I didn't really keep an eye on it and closed out with a £1.70 win. On day two I remembered that I could set a limit order on the bet as well as a stop loss, so I set it to automatically close out at 15 points of profit which it duly did - £16.70 on its way to my bank account, thank you very much :D

Free money - always the best kind, well done you Caz
    Must use my stash up!
  • Today I have:
    • Dispatched 60 orders
    • Made up a new batch of fly spray for the horses
    • Made up a new batch of linseed mix for the horses
    • Changed the bed linen
    • Finished the laundry
    • Hoovered the whole house
    • Dusted the living room
    • Done a stock count on all the black agate beads, repriced them and combined them onto a multiple option listing
    • Phoned eBay customer support to find out why I'm suddenly being billed in US dollars after the glitches on Friday (apparently it's a known bug and the tech team is working on it)
    • Tried on all my summer clothes to see what fits
    • Rounded up £50 of English bank notes at the post office - they're going to try and save me another £50-worth before we go away
Much as I'm looking forward to our holiday, I'm gutted to be shutting down just as sales are starting to build. Never mind. The hotel has free wi-fi, so I've set up all my work email addresses to synchronise to my phone and I'll be checking them once a day - I *know* I'm supposed to be relaxing, but eBay is going to invoice me in two currencies the day after I leave and expect payment before I'm back; I've got no automatic payment method set up for the $ account and I don't particularly want to set one up, so I need to see what gets emailed through on the invoice. It would be a shame to get my eBay account suspended for non-payment while I was away...

I've had confirmation through of the charm bracelet order I placed last night :D The bad news is that the price has gone up slightly due to movement of the RMB against the dollar, but only US$0.25 per dozen bracelets, so I think I can absorb the rise. I'll pay them in the morning when the banks re-open. The cash situation is now that I have everything I need for the bills and need about another £400 to pay for this order. After that, I need another £500-ish for the flatbacks order and then I can start thinking about maybe paying me in September!

Loving the goals - that's so me. I have a 5 year one related to debt at the moment but I'd love to extend that to opening my own livery yard however I can't see past paying the debt off at the moment.

Just cos you can't do anything financially doesn't mean you can't have plans in place. If someone gave you the money tomorrow what would you have to do? How much would you have to charge to cover overheads - you probably don't know cos you don't know what all the overheads are. So, shiny new spreadsheet, list everything and get researching. Otherwise you'll be kicking yourself in 3 years time when you have that lottery win ;). Seriously, don't let lack of money stop you moving towards your goal. Also it will make it seem real and spur you on to making that 5 year plan a 4 years 9 month plan, then 4 years 6 months etc. :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

  • gallygirl, what a wonderful post. I've never thought of it like that :)

caz, I've been lurking for ages so thought I'd say hello, and wish you a happy birthday (chuckling at your DH's unfortunate errors!) and hope you have a fab holiday. I'm loving how far ahead you are looking, I find it really hard to do this beyond the end of my own nose sometimes
