Both, really. He is bred from outstanding working lines, so that innate desire to herd things helps an awful lot, but without the guidance from me directing him when to put pressure on the sheep and when to back off, he'd just be moving them randomly around the field. Now his confidence is increasing, I'm getting him to stay on the opposite side of the sheep to me, so he's bringing them to me - previously he'd not wanted to be more than about 10 feet away from me, but on Tuesday I left him lying in the middle of the field, walked around and behind the sheep to the far corner and then asked him to come up slowly, and we ended up with 13 out of 14 standing around my legs :D (Number 14 had split away from the others and was watching suspiciously from the next field!) His inexperience really shows when he tries to move them by going up behind them and splits them instead - he stands in the middle, head whipping from side to side, trying to work out which lot to go after and then he looks at me with a sort of quizzical 'Help??' expression :rotfl: We'll get there :)
Did you say 'come away lad'? Did you, did you, did you? Please say you did :)

:rotfl: It's 'come by' to send him clockwise and 'away to me' to send him anti-clockwise, but that's still a work in progress ;) He gets it right when we're playing in the garden, but it hasn't translated to the field yet!
  • To be fair, he's not really a puppy any more - I took this about 10 days ago:

We got a half-decent come by last night though :D

Today's jobs include finding my V5 and the rest of my car paperwork (I've got all the MOT and services records back to 2014, but should have 2010 to 2013 somewhere) and then getting a re-quote from the car-buying people prior to, hopefully, saying goodbye to my car at the weekend. I shall miss it enormously, but once the other house is up and running and bringing in an income I'll probably buy something small and old to tootle about in rather than trying to park a truck or van at Tesco.

Thank you, and no, I can't believe it either! I'm hoping to do it by the end of this month.
  • Car-buying appointment booked for tomorrow lunchtime, train ticket home purchased. I shall miss her, but that's the debt definitely paid off by the end of the month.

*sniffle* Thank you, old girl, you've been a lot of fun to drive *sniffle*

  • We are now a 2-vehicle family again. They knocked a fair bit off after inspecting it, though I managed to get them to add a bit back on for the Parrot hands-free system, long MOT and nearly new battery. All I need to do now is notify DVLA and the insurance company and get Mr Minx to make me the main driver for the truck so I maintain my no claims bonus. Ironically my car insurance renewal notification arrived today - £182, which was about what I was expecting - but the small print says there's an admin charge of nearly £50 to cancel the policy. Given there's less than a month to run on it, there won't be that much due back to me, so I'm probably better off just not renewing it, though I need to check if I'm breaking any laws by continuing to insure a car I no longer own.

I could kick myself though - I forgot that a £260 payment goes out of my account on the 10th of the month, and thought it was the 15th, so was highly surprised to find my debit card was declined in Inverness today. Thank goodness for 4G and banking apps, I was able to log in, see that I'd gone overdrawn by £8.65 yesterday and move some money in there immediately. I think NatWest gives you a £10 buffer, so I'm hoping I won't get charged, but it's still annoying.

I'm also a bit sad today. Mr Minx has a birthday finishing in 0 this year and he's been very slow to come up with ideas for celebrating it. Yesterday he did - to go and see one of his favourite bands in their home state of Kentucky. So I Googled, and although they're not playing in Kentucky this year, they are playing a one-day festival in Maryland, along with three more of Mr Minx's favourite bands. I've looked into it and just the flights and car hire would be nearly £1,500, that's before hotels and tickets for the gig, which for half-decent ones (the venue is a seated amphitheatre) would be around US$200 each. I hate that I don't make enough money to do this for him :(

But as a couple you do, and 0 birthdays are a joint venture. Fact :D.

Seriously, Mr M can only have the lifestyle he has because you run the house and look after the animals during the week, and also I bet you've taken on the majority of the organisation for the new house. You're a team (though I know from what you've said in the past you like to be self reliant - but Mr M doesn't care).

It sounds like a one-off event, seeing them all playing together so BOOK IT!!!!!! It's not as if you're extravagant the rest of time (well, apart from your other holidays............ ;)).

    Auntie GG knows best :D.
