  • Mr Minx is out entertaining a few very important people who came all the way up here to pick his brains this evening and is staying over at their (very nice!) hotel tonight, so I'm sitting in peace and quiet with the fire, doing some dictation for a private client and trying to comfort the world's most depressed spaniel who has been sitting on the windowsill whimpering to herself since about 5 o'clock because her Daddy isn't home! Currently in a break between sections, the last chunk started with an instruction to, 'Pour yourself a large glass of wine, this is going to be a long one!' and it's coming through in five-minute lumps.

Not much else to report, had a late invoice paid today which was nice :) eBay sales are slow but ticking. Next chunk now here and downloaded, so I'd better crack on.
  • 99 minutes (working time, not audio time) of fascinating stuff about the world of billionaires - love this job :) Time for bed, night all.
  • Another day, another few quid. Only 12 orders to send today, which is utterly ridiculous for this time of year. I assume it's partly because the money I've been paying off the overdraft would normally have been reinvested in more stock, so I have less to sell than usual.

Mr Minx came home with the perfect get-out card today. An admin job at his workplace that they've failed to fill (it involves dealing with a complicated bit of software that only about two people in the company understand) and are now desperate enough to consider allowing working from home for. £10 an hour, 38 hours a week, working as a contractor, initially for six months. I thought about it and decided that I didn't want to apply. Now, I may be completely crackers to not go for it, but I think I'd go bonkers now if I couldn't turn down work or decide to take an afternoon off.

If it was something that really, really grabbed me then it might be different, but this is a one-task admin position and it wouldn't leave me any time to deal with beads or transcription or proofreading or anything else, really.

I completely get why you wouldn't want to go for such a 'tying' job. I muddle along being self employed and sessional and try new income streams when I can - I'm my own boss and really like the work I do [most of the time :D]. Whilst I could look for a more regular stable income I don't as I'd find it too restrictive and probably get a bit bored in time.

Crikey, 12 orders is pants :( but I think you've made the right decision :T.

Nearly scores on the doors time :j.

Well, and maybe I should keep quiet...but I think you should trial it. If they are needing someone they will probably be happy for x week trial period. Maybe it doesn't have to be a 38 hour week with someone like you in charge. Maybe afternoons only would suffice......but gift horse and mouth combined with lack or orders would personally make me think down an alternate route. You may have and decided no still in which case....ignore this and get cracking with scores haha :) x
    Debt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)

    Total £8601 Was £39302
  • Okay, okay, okay, I'm here!!

DF2012 - unfortunately because it's a secure nuclear site, I'm either in or out, there couldn't be a trial. I'd have to have a DV (Developed Vetting) before I'd be permitted to deal with the documentation stored on the system and it's not a quick process - it's the highest form of government security check there is and Mr Minx's took months to complete, even though as someone who'd built nuclear submarines in the past, he'd already been done before (they have to be re-done if they're over seven years old). That's why they're really wanting an internal candidate who could start right away, I'd be looking at end of February best-case scenario, depending on what the backlog is.

Anyway, scores :D Orders are still low, but at least one today is for £200 and another is for £90, so the banking looked quite healthy this morning!

    Business
    Overdraft: -£-6,000.00 / -£5,830.00 +£170.00

    Business total: -£-6,000.00 / -£5,830.00 +£170.00

    Personal
    Halifax card: -£5,310.00 / -£5,310.00 no change

    Personal total: -£5,310.00 / -£5,310.00 no change

    Grand total:11,310.00 / -£11,140.00 +£170.00

Exactly the same reduction as last week! If I can manage it for a third week in a row (and bear in mind that I'll be paying £60 off the Halifax card next week), then it's looking good for £10-something next Friday :j:j:j

    Right, back to proofreading :)
  • Wow!!! Well I didn't expect that answer lol! You have some seriously interesting influences in your life :D I love the highest form of security - sends a shiver down my spine - am I sad?

You know what's best for you :)

LOL! Not at all, it's all a bit Bond ;) Even the form is ridiculously long:

This is what they have to check:

Mr Minx has been through it a few times and has also had to sign the Official Secrets Act a couple of times - I suppose at least if I did apply for and get the job, I'd have to sign it too and then he'd be able to tell me a lot more about what he got up to in the Navy!!
