Stopping phone calls from British Gas - possible?

Just a quick question about phonecalls from British Gas. Is it possible to withdraw your permission for them to contact you by telephone and to only receive emails/letters from them?

Has anyone done that? Or heard of anyone who has?

Cheers,

HD

We have boiler cover with BGas and used to get loads of calls from them trying to persuade us to switch gas/electricity supply to them. Eventually I explained to the caller that I realized that as I was a customer via boiler cover then they had a "relationship" with me and so were permitted to call me but added that if they continued to call I would cancel my boiler cover thus severing the "relationship" .... and he said I'd be added to a "do not call" list. This seems to have fixed the problem.
  • I am experiencing an unacceptable volume of calls from British Gas-up to 5 a day- too, as the anniversary of my switch away from them is nearing.
I have caller ID enabled, so have just stopped answering when I see their number, but it is a nuisance.

Thanks for your thoughts folks. I've solved it temporarily by changing the contact number they have for me to one which 99.9% of the time does not have a phone plugged into the socket. So they can just carry on ringing now.

British Gas are using some private call centres run by Capita to do their work,. They ve taken to phoning up 90 year olds (my mum ) to supply them with meter readings, They ve been banned from doorstep selling its time cold calling by phone was also outlawed.

I use to get calls from them told them to stop they continued for a while until I complained. Problem is calls came from different departments. I now have truecall which blocks cold calls but I got it mainly for talk talk which came around today funny enough at the door

They are hassling me to pay my bill. It only came a week or so ago and they've phoned twice now. I always wait for the red one - I could pay it now but my dear old Dad used to say "Better in your account than theirs!"

It was when she said "are you sure you can't pay it with me right now?" Er no - I'm having my tea.

They must be really strapped for cash to be hassling customers like this. The Capita call centre thing makes sense though so thanks to sacsquacco for telling me about that. With me changing the number there's no chance that they will ever be able to get through and bother me again so that's told 'em.

If you register with TPS then BG should honour that.

Already registered with TPS Prowla. Sometimes you can't rely on companies to do the right thing you have to take the matter into your own hands.

TPS does not apply if you already have an account with BG. It relates to cold calling only.
BG are perfectly entitled to chase overdue bills. If your salary was a week late, would you accept your employer taking the view that it's 'only a week overdue'? I think not.

  • Buy a phone which enables you to block calls from numbers that you identify......................
