SAFFA - is there any organisation to help retired Merchant Seaman

Hi,
My dad is an ex Royal Navy Seaman, and also an ex Merchant Navy Seaman.
He's currently in a hospital rehab unit to get fit enough to come home. He really needs a walk in shower as getting over the bath is going to be a problem. The Occupational Therapist is ready to discharge him. But I'm worried how he's going to manage getting his legs over the bath as the bath board didn't seem to offer much help - and of course when there's water on the floor/bath/etc it's going to be more difficult.
I'm going to apply to saffa to see if they could help with a grant or something. But is there any organisation that helps retired merchant seaman in the north east?

Just leave it to the SSAFA case worker. They will contact all the organisations that can help.
You could also try the council etc for a disabled facilities grant. They take time to do but most councils are underspent for ex-forces and DFG.0 -
There are a few points of contact you can try.
Firstly the Royal British Legion, even if they cant help they will be more than happy to "signpost" you to someone who can.
The RAF has RAFA, so I am sure the Navy have something simular.
SSAFA may equally "signpost" you to someone who can help.
Equally forget that he is ex-Navy/Mearchant seaman and look at what can be provided through Soical services ect.
Good luck,

SSAFA wont just signpost. Once they have completed the forms etc they will approach the various charities, agencies for you. They'll do all the work for you.0
