LTSB Home Contents - Epic Win!

For many years I have insured my home contents with Lloyds TSB. The price was so good that hopeful telesales guys couldn't get near it, and even vowed to switch to the company themselves! So I haven't bothered doing comparisons for years, until I checked recently (MSE of course) and found my paltry £11 pcm could be reduced to almost £4, and even £6 with the same insurer, for up to £30k standard cover in this area. I wondered whether this had to do with better security acquired during a home-move three years ago. The premiums hadn't gone down...
So, I wrote a proper letter, and got a reply acknowledging that policies are renewed automatically on the assumption that customers are happy - but giving a telephone number in case I wanted a review.
0845 doesn't cost me anything, and option 2 was for those of us "thinking of leaving". They explained that one reason for a higher premium was my extremely low historic excess of £35. But sure enough, as a valued customer with only one modest claim (more than 10 years ago), they were willing to apply a 40% loyalty discount - saving me almost £55 over the next year, for one painless phone call.
Thank-you, Lloyds TSB. I don't need it cheaper.

good for you, though shame they didnt offer this at renewal stage, in view of your loyalty..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
£30000 contents cover is a fairly low sum insured, if it's not enough to replace your entire contents at the new price, it could mean a substantial reduction in any claim payments0
