Reclaiming a bank charge from Barclays, due to Natwest

Hi,
I have just had a letter charging me £8 for a bounced DD. I was due to have some money paid in from a Natwest account so didn't realise I was not going to be empty in that account and thus the DD would bounce...
I wondered if anyone though I would have any success reclaiming this charge due to the Natwest problems? Obviously can't expect Barclays to pay for Natwest's problems but what can I do? Or should I just accept the charge...

Why was the money delayed from your NatWest account?
If related to their recent IT issues, then I suggest you speak with NatWest.
I think they said no one should expect to find themselves out of pocket because of the recent issues they suffered.0 -
Yes. I was expecting to get a payment in on Monday morning from someone with Natwest, but it didn't go through. I didn't check my bank balance so the payment (which was on Wednesday) bounced.
I'll talk with Natwest first then before Barclays?0 -

Who was it that owed you the money and why?
Was there a contractual obligation for the money to have been paid when you claim (e.g. wages) or was it just wishful thinking on your part that the money would arrive on Monday?
If there was a contractual obligation in place, then you should bring this breach of contract to the attention of the payer. Be kind, as you are aware the difficulties that the payer was suffering due to NatWest's recent issues. However it would be for the payer to refund you. (They should be able to recover this from NatWest with suitable evidence of loss)
If, however, no contractual obligation existed that the payment had to be made on Monday, then it's your fault you didn't ensure that sufficient cleared funds existed in your account in time to meet your DD. If it's a 'first offence', banks are often willing to refund such charges on request as a gesture of goodwill, so worth asking.0 -
Ah, so it wasn't your NatWest account. NatWest won't be interested.

Wrong! Natwest have stated that they will pay all fees and charges even if you don't bank with them! Just call and make a complaint, they will do the rest!:T0 -

From the NatWest websiteI'm not a NatWest customer but I've been affected?
We recognise this issue has impacted more than just our own customers for which we apologise. In the first instance we recommend you contact your bank to let them know what's happened. They will be able to advise how they can help.
I suggest the OP follows the advice I gave earlier if they wish to expedite appropriate restitution0
