Air locks in hot water systems

Options
Just looking for a bit of advice.

My tenants have reported for thr 3rd time in 4 months that they have no hot water. Two previous times it turned out to be an air lock in the system and I think this may be the case again.

What I can't understand is how the air lock is getting into the system. I lived in the property fr 4 years and never had a problem.

Any ideas just so I can advise the tenants.

Obviously I will be getting a plumber round to look at it ;)

Thanks

What type of system? Combi or gravity?
Not sure how it could happen with combi as it is a sealed system.
With gravity fed it can happen if there is low supply pressure or some faulty ballvalve in the cold tank which slows down the refill. When too much hot water is drawn the header tank becomes empty and air can be sucked down into the hot system.

When was the last time the airlocks have been checked up? Probably within that four years the air lock might be failing or has some repairs needed that you should give attention now.

What?? I think you must be confusing air-locks with something else. Air-locks do not fail or need repairs they just shouldn't be there!

    Ninth Anniversary Combo Breaker
I had problems with the pressure in my system when the PCB started going and the system was cutting out. I spent months bleeding radiators until it went completely and I was able to work out what the problem was.
Try googling common faults with your brand of boiler and see if other people have discussed it on the web.

Unless the tenants are living on a space ship or submarine, then the functioning airlocks are very important.

More seriously if it's a combi I would google pressure vessel failure for you boiler.

The property doesn't have a boiler as it is on an estate with Distrcit Heating. I have spoken to them and they say its not coming from them.

    Thanks for you advice!

Try posting your problem on this forum here.

Lots of plumbers/heating engineers over there...

edit: but just a tip - give them full details. Suddenly adding relevant info like
The property doesn't have a boiler as it is on an estate with Distrcit Heating.
is not helpful and people get p*ssed off if they try to advise and then their advice is redundant because you add other info....
