How could you make a copy of sent emails using a standard email smtp server.

I want to keep a copy of what emails I SEND through my own hosted domain.

I know it's simple to take a copy of all emails that are RECEIVED through pop3, but how would you go about it using smtp.
Can it be done with IMAP?

To make things a little more complicated, the emails will mostly be sent on a Blackberry device.

(and no CC is not an option.)

    Why not?

Speak to your ISP, as normally the smtp box does not retain emails, it is simply a forwarding agent, after checking that the "from" address is registered. IMAP is not applicable to outbound either.

How much control do you have over the server?

OOoooohhh I just had another idea which made me delete a load of stuff...

Create your own SMTP server which then forwards on via your official SMTP - then you can set it up to clone/keep/backup the emails as they pass through it. Something like this http://www.softstack.com/freesmtp.html or compile your own simplified one to suit?

Nice idea, but would it work with his Blackberry?? Don't know enough about them, but doesn't the softstack require the smtp server to be held on the portable device?

Whenever I send emails from my BB a copy is automatically placed into Sent mail folder on my server.

I also have an option in Mail settings on my BB to send an automatic BCC of all outgoing mail to a nominated address
How do I add a signature?

Awww - sorry, forgot just how dirty Blackberry integration is - had a rethink, and frankly forget any ideas of inserting your own SMTP server in-line unless you want to cry. Apologies!

I beg to differ; my IMAP server has a Sent box into which all my sent emails go. And I know they're there because I can copy them across to another IMAP server using an IMAP message moving utility.

Not all servers may handle sent mail this way, of course.
