Most Qualified But, Made Redundant! Now What?

  • Hi,

As a former employer who did have to make staff redundant on more than one occasion it is definitely worth former employees goint to ACAS with a claim of unfair dismissal. Most employers will pay out before going to a tribunal as tribunals are expensive, time consuming and stressful. So, if you believe you have been unfairly dismissed then take your claim to ACAS and let them see what they can do. It is very difficult to be calm and rational when your income and means of supporting yourself and family are under threat. It may be that the company doesn't want to employ for a whole host of reasons that they can't legally declare but if this is the case then you shouldn't be financially penalised just because your face no longer fits. Go to ACAS - they are neutral, effective and know their job.

    Good luck, Steven1966

antrobus - I have already spoken to one successful candidate ( and congratulated him ) who was doing the same role as me & he's earning a further £2000 more than myself so, money doesn't seem to be the issue as such here.

So perhaps you're not the most experienced and qualified then? If one of your co-workers is being paid £2,000 more to do the same job, then presumably they're better than you at doing the job.

Blunt, I know, but that's the kind of thing that matters when redundancy looms.

I started in my current role managing a shift in January, the now appointed QA had been in the same role as myself for the previous 3 years hence, he was on a higher salary than me. Would you expect to be on the same payscale as someone who was more experienced than you?

& after various one to one meetings & an interview i was finally informed yesterday by telephone ( Due to being off sick ) of the Companies decision that i had failed in my application

I would say that part of the answer why you got picked is right there.

Not the best thing being off sick, while this is going on.

2 days off with a temperature reading 104?! As i have said previously you can count the amount of days i have taken off sick on 2 hands over the course of 19 years. I take it you've not read all of the posts in the thread.

You need to look at more than just qualifications if they rank experience higher that would put you down the pecking order.

Are qualifications actualy needed to do audit or is it just a company requirement.

    Any statutory regulation?

Is there anything else you are not top of the list for?
    Have you upset anyone?
    Not been flexble when asked?

This is a new role for the company in regards to the job title of 'Quality Auditor' but, i have been carrying out 90% of the duties required for this role for several years, to carry out internal audits you have as per ISO 9001 ( QMS ) to carry out these audits & have the relevant certification to enable you to do so.

I have carried out the Company Induction for all new starters for the past 12 years so knew each & every employee & would say a seemingly good egg & was the only auditor that would arrive early, stay late & work on the night shift so, flexible yes.

I read every post in the thread. Still does not change the fact you were off sick while this was going on.

Less than 10 days in 19 years!;) Let's hope then that that is their reason, going to love hearing about THAT at any subsequent tribunal

The way I am reading the OP is that he is currently off sick (2 days) and he received the phone call yesterday (whilst off sick). His current sick leave surely doesn't enter into the decision taken.
