22 hour delay

I flew back from Dalaman on Saturday with Thomas cook after a delay of almost 22 hours. I was not covered for delay on my travel insurance. Should I expect compensation? I have sent an email to Thomas cook, but as yet have had no reply

Why not it's a pretty standard item?

Apart from any expenses not covered by TC what are your losses?

In all my years of travelling I have not made a claim on any insurance, as there has been no need to. I just wanted basic medical insurance cover, as was not expecting a 22 hour delay.

Do you mean you bought a policy without cover for delay? Anyway I had a 24 hour delay once and they paid out about £30 from Memory. The airline paid for the meals ,hotel etc.

What was the cause of the delay?

What was the cause of the delay?

What financial loss did you have?

Cause was a fault with the engine, they had to fly an engineer in from Manchester to fix it. Financial loss was a 20 quid taxi fare. But it was the lack of information and hanging around which was the worst part. They did ship us all out to a hotel for about 7 hours, and fed us, but offered no drinks of water between 14.30 and 7pm. People had to buy their own.

Well I have to say your losses seem to have been some water and
£20. I think you must have saved those costs with the budget insurance you have.

However 'proper' Delayed Flight Compensation seems to be almost upon us but in the end the passenger will pay (where else can the money come from)

I have to say EXCEPT FOR THE MEDICAL SIDE I prefer to self-insure, my luggage is never worth the excess and the odd delay in a sunny place is no big deal.

Should have just taken off with the faulty engine and saved everyone the inconvenience.

Delays are annoying, but better late than never. Would you sooner have crashed out of the sky.

Not nice nor helpful to anyone...

Compensation claims will be considered for delays that have occurred up to 6 years ago (small claims court time limit), once the delay compensation challenge has been ruled on in passengers' favour in the Autumn.

If the delay was due to technical issues then in most cases this is covered by compensation. You will almost certainly have to take the airline to court as compensation is not automatically paid.

Check this thread for updates on delay compensation every few weeks as that is where news about this will be posted on MSE:
