mobile phone numpty urgently seeks advice

Options
Hi All

I have ( at present ) an LG optimus me mobile, with a tesco contract sim card. I can get on the internet and all the bits and bobs you need from a mobile phone ( including text and calls . sad man I know :o ! )

The thing is I hate the phone ! I have a tendency to ring people when it is in my pocket ( I think my left nipple has a life of it's own and can unlock the phone itself ! ) , text garbled messages to people and the screen seems to have a life of it's own, worse sometimes, othertimes not.

What I am after is buying a sim free, unlocked phone, which would have a qwerty keyboard attached ( like a blackberry does ) which would work with the tesco sim card I have ( i hate touchscreen qwerty keyboards )

Questions are.....
1. what type of phone do i have to look for? does it have to stay as an android one to work with the sim, or could I get say a nokia c3 with keyboard and the phone still operate?

2. I presume the sim card is a 3g one, am i correct?

3. can anyone suggest and reccomend a good (cheapish) phone which would do the job? I don't need to have all the apps etc, just want one that will allow me to ring, text, take pics( flash preferred) and get on t'internet when away from home. I don't do facebook, twitter or play games on it.

4. Any good reliable websites to buy from?

Hope you can help, this LG is going to get crushed under my car wheels soon if it carries on as it is.

Any help greatly received

    1. what type of phone do i have to look for? does it have to stay as an android one to work with the sim, or could I get say a nokia c3 with keyboard and the phone still operate? Android is just the operating system, your sim card would work on any operating system therefore any phone in that respect however a t-mobile card wouldn't work in an orange branded phone for example. As its a Tesco sim, Im not sure what the deal is with that. Even though it is with Tesco, is it a branded one ie. vodafone, orange etc?

    2. I presume the sim card is a 3g one, am i correct? It's the phone that is 3g, not the sim card. Your sim card would work on a 3g or 2 g phone (again depends on question number 1 in terms of network)

    3. can anyone suggest and reccomend a good (cheapish) phone which would do the job? I don't do facebook, twitter or play games on it. I'm not up to date on phones I'm afraid other than the few 'big' ones out now so someone else can probably help with this.

    4. Any good reliable websites to buy from? Buying outright, Amazon is a good a place as any.

    Thanks for all that.

The tesco sim card with the phone works on the o2 network.

I know I should be looking at an unlocked phone, so any network sim card should work on it. Hopefully I am right in this?

The Nokia C3 is pretty decent, although the camera is not great - unsurprising for a £70 phone.

You could buy a new £70 phone...

or £15 case for the phone instead... ^_^

Or buy a pack of those "pasties" for £5 to keep your nipple at bay... ^_^

Every mobile phone ever made has a SIM lock function, which prevents inadvertent calls.
It also offers protection against theft and subsequent misuse.
I never cease to be amazed by the number of people who don't lock their phones, and then get a thousand pound bill for calls to Ulan Bator when it's nicked.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It has got a screen lock function, which I do use, but it can be sitting on a desk and magically unlock itself ! Also when you dial out, you unlock it, tap the contact you wish to ring, it dials them and then locks itself again,so you have to unlock it again and the tendency is that you swipe over the end call button by accident and cut yourself off.

Thats why I am after a new phone.

I'm taling about a SIM lock, not a screen lock. That requires you to enter a 4 digit PIN. To do that accidentally is impossible.
A scree lock offers no security at all if the phone is stolen or lost.

If you're thinking of getting rid of the phone you could alway's get a bit adventurous and install a custom ROM for the phone...

    not a lot too lose...
How to unlock step by step:

    Then follow this:

Then you can install this nice looking ROM:
