I've just bought the following laptop and have bought 4gb more ram to take it up to 8gb:

I'm also thinking about upgrading the HDD. Now, a 500gb SSD is out of my budget, but I was wondering if one of these would work:

If so, is there anyway to get Windows 7 installed on it without having to buy a new copy? I don't want to have to buy is as I've just bought the laptop. I have a copy of Windows 7 upgrade that I bought for my old laptop if that helps.
Would appreciate your thoughts guys

Not quite sure what you're asking, (i) You can't afford the SSD, then (ii) give a link to the SSD?
In essence as the Lenovo has a 500gb hdd already you could clone it to another drive, as long as the receiving drive/partition is the same size or larger. You would need to clone any recovery partitons too. Secondly as long as you have the win 7 COA license, then there are legal download sites for win 7 too if you get into difficulties.0 -

It's not a full SSD drive, it's a hybrid, you sacrifice some of the performance for increased storage. It's £70 for a 500gb drive apposed to £300+ for full SSD.0 -
I have 2 of those "hybrid" drives, they work very well. Easist way to switch is to buy a cheap USB caddy, and put the new drive in it. Then use cloning software to clone the existing drive to the new one. When done just put the new drive in the laptop and enjoy.0

Okay should have read down, sounds good as long as you have the latest firmware. Did you read the reviews?
Otherwise in answering yr question my second para above applies.0 -
On the laptop there should be the ability to create a recovery disc.
If there isn't, use something like Clonezilla with the hybrid drive in a caddy to clone the original to the new drive.0 -
Yes a Lenovo will be able to create a recovery disc (from the all programs) but DON'T listen to a thing the Lenovo recovery disc creator says. It will not take 5 discs, it will take 4 or 6, I have no idea how Lenovo manages to mess up the disc creator when every other manufacture can say exactly how many discs it would take to create.
So either clone the Hard Drive to the SSD Hybrid or create a set of recovery discs from the old HDD and replace the HDD with the SSD Hybrid and use the recovery discs to restore it back to factory settings (DO NOT LOOSE THE DISCS)....
Infact either way, create a set of recovery discs first as it saves SO much time if everything goes pear shaped.0
