Can I reclaim excessive home insurance premiums?

I ran my home insurance through moneysupermarket and got 67 quotes all under £300, three of which were under £100. I settled for £166. My renewal quote from Santander was £742, nearly 5 times as much. Clearly I have been paying for insurance I did not need for 15 years, a total of £8640 in todays money. One area at issue is building cover which they sold me as unlimited. Obviously their liability is limited to the rebuilding of the house as it now is. Can I claim any of this back and if so whats the best starting point?

no, you had the option to shop around before so its your problem. also you did need the insurance - its just it was more expensive than you could have gotten it for!

There is no such thing as excessive.

Policies today are very different to those available 15 years ago. Plus, banks are typically the most expensive distribution channel.

Most are that way or have very very high automatic maximums.
