    Understood.

The best Dell deals are here, all are Dual Core, all have an identical 15.4 widescreen, all have at least a gig of ram, choose Xp instead of Vista if you want on some, all the HD's are frankly huge for a laptop, they all look alike and they will all undertake any task but high res 3d games with ease (the x1400 will have a go), they will all be practically worthless in a few years.

Is it true there are compatibility issues between certain software and Vista? Would XP be a better option over Vista for the same price? The £370 Dell does look like an attractive offer.
