Hi
I was about to delete a program on my trusty 9150 which I have had for over 3 years and has always been reliable.
As I was doing it, it switched itself off came back on then when I went to my program list it was totally empty!!!
Gutted as had about 25 things on it I really wanted to watch.
I have already phoned Humax who basically said they have gone that's it, so you need to format the HDD.
But I was just wondering (in desperation!!
) if any of you clever folk know any way around it to get them back as I know once I format it that's it!! Something is still there as the HDD control shows 42% Free which would be about right.
Any ideas!! Thanks.

I doubt you will be able to get your programs back, but maybe someone on the digitalspy forums can help.

I have had problems with my Humax over the years and have had to re format a couple of times. I can only suggest you record a program and see if that causes the previously recorded programs list to re-populate. Chances are though that they are unrecoverable and you will need to reformat the hard drive and start again...0

Some PVRs store recordings as MPEG encoded files which are easy to find and play back. But it seems that Humax don't, and instead they record the whole multiplex (a combination of several channels all transmitted together).
So even if you can get at the files (which you should be able to do by putting the hard disk in a caddy and connecting it to a PC), you would still need to use a DVB demultiplexer to extract an individual channel.
It certainly sounds possible, but probably not something that any non-technical person would want to take on.0 -
Thanks everyone, suppose I will just have to resign myself to the fact they ain't coming back!!
Gonna see what happens when I record new stuff and ask on Digitsalspy before I format though!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

This is a very common problem on these Humax boxes. It's a pain but the good news is, that provided you don't format the system and don't record any new stuff then the recordings can (mainly) still be recovered onto a PC. The files aren't actually gone, it is just the index gets corrupted very easily. The problem is that you need to be very technically minded to do it. It's probably too much hassle for most people, but it can be done.
The process basically involves a small modification to the Humax to enable an external eSATA connector directly to the drive, then using a piece of software called HumaxRW which can pull the files off the machine onto a PC.

A simpler alternative would be just to open the box up, remove the drive, and stick it in a USB-SATA dock and connect to your PC, then use HumaxRW from there. Once you have the recordings off, just put the Humax back together.
Doing any of these things will invalidate any warranty and none are advised if you don't know what you're doing!0 -
Thanks very much for your reply BlueC!
But.....I think that would be a bit over my head really, in the long run I would much rather lose the programmes than damage the box.
So it looks like I'm going to press the "format" button lol!!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"
