Someone using my address fraudulently!

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but not sure which one:

Just received a letter addressed to someone not living at this address. It is a home insurance renewal. It's not the 1st time we have received mail addressed to this person's name, and so I'm a little concerned that they are using this address fraudulently.

I contacted the bank that the letter was from, and they confirmed she has made no recent address changes, so she's has been using this address for quite some time. They asked if I can send the letter back to them, with a covering letter explaining she doesn't live here, which I'm about to do. They are also going to look into it.

But my question is, what if she's using this address for other companies? Is there someone central I can contact if I feel my address is being used fraudulently?

Any advice would be really appreciated :)

Get yourself a credit report from Experian or one of the others. It will show any linked people/addresses and any borrowing that you might not recognise.

How long have you lived there? Could it be the previous owner/tennant who has just forgotten to update some companies?

Lived here for about 25 years. The customer service rep on the phone thought the same until I explained how long we've been here

Will it show me if she has used my address for absolutely anything, or only borrowing?

I shall definately do that! Thanks :)

It will only show anything related to credit/borrowing.

I still get British Gas trying to read a meter they removed 7 years ago and in the name of the former owner who departed this world 14 years ago!

A quick glance in the utility cupboard outside shows that the supply, renewed in 04 was never connected :D
Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.
