Ipad on the move

I am trying to decide what type of ipad to buy. I think that I have just about decided to go for 16GB but not sure if I should go cellular or Wi-fi. In the MSE spirit I think that may not need cellular as I would only use occasionally if out and about, possibly not near wi-fi.

I have recently purchased a pay as you go iphone 4S from CEX which is locked to T-mobile (standard booster). I was told that if I wanted to keep 12 month guarantee I should not 'mess' with it and they can tell from the number. I have been told by a friend that there are ways around this but not sure if I want to go down that line. Someone told me I need to jailbreak phone if I want to use as a hotspot for ipad.

The more I have read (on here and internet) has only increased my confusion. I did not want to hijack another thread so started this. Some different viewpoints would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Can't believe anyone buys Apple, the way they lock you in and their arrogant refusal to support Flash.

Wait for the new Microsoft Surface, it's gonna be much more of a real computer.

If you're 'not near' WiFi, then a WiFi iPad won't connect to anything. It needs WiFi to connect you to the web, mail, etc.

If you're going to be places without WiFi coverage, and you want to do more than work with documents stored on the Pad itself, you need either a 3G iPad or a phone that you can 'tether' the iPad to....

Google 'tethering iPad' for more on this...

What do you think you will want to do on the iPad that you can't do on the iPhone in the few unknown occasions when you don't have wifi?

You can use the iPhone 4S as a wifi hotspot without jailbreaking it, unless there has been some sort of hobbling operation carried out by t-mobile.

Go to Settings -> Personal Hotspot, and turn it on. Only turn it on when you are actually needing to use it tho, it is not good for battery life.

I now realise that my post was not that clear. The choice is a 3G pad or tethering, just trying to get more understanding.

I think the main reason for using ipad rather iphone would be the screen size.

I think that I know that the best option for me is the tethering as I really would not be in the situation without Wi-Fi very often.
I guess I was not very clear about tethering and getting bogged down with info with a headache. Now I have a clearer head I will try googling tethering again.

    Thanks for your help.
