Don't forget to measure from skirting board to skirting board if the furniture has to sit on the floor. Also double check that the width of the alcove is the same at the front as the rear.

And that the height is consistent across the alcove, and that the depth is the same at left and right....?

Apologies if you took it that way. I do occassionally get accused of this.....

It just seemed such a very unusual and unnecessary idea that I reacted with... surprise!

Or was it describing you as DIY-challanged you took exception to? It was, after all, your own self-description.

    Good luck with the purchase.

I just misread you. I'm probably being a little sensitive, as this is uncharted territory for me. Lots of people don't like to admit they have no idea how to do something (heck, there's landfills full of discarded instruction manuals and the flat pack furniture they're intended for that attest to this) and I can be one of them. That this purchase isn't going very smoothly isn't helping my nerves either.

Happy Days and googler, thanks. That's exactly the sort of thing I was after.

    Don't do it.

Your post seems to suggest this is the first property you've owned and therefore the first bathroom you've installed. Wait until you own the property and live in it for a while. I have absolutley no doubt that if you purchase a new bathroom based on a 10 min measuring excercise in a bathroom you've never spent more than 15 mins in, you will make mistakes.

I realise it's very exciting and you want to get everything done straight away, but you need to get a feel for the room and you will need to check lots of measurements when ordering. Before ordering something as expensive as a bathroom I'll measure things 3 or 4 times, checking where the items will sit on the wall. Not everything is a standard size so it's always good to be able to mark up in the room where things will go and see whether they fit, or they're out of proportion.
