need to extend drain hose on dishwasher. Previously done by plumber , used extra bit of hose connected with a metal ring with a screw in it. Do I need some kind of glue to waterproof the join?

Just buy a longer hose?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Is the hose the same type as a washing machine hose, i.e convoluted plastic hose??"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

You probably need something like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Standard-Universal-Drain-Hose-Connector-for-Washing-Machines-Dishwashers-/110843179352?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Washing_Machines_Dryers_Parts_Accessories_ET&hash=item19cec4b158"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

just go into your local plumbers merchant & ask for one of the above plus a washing machine drain hose two jubilee clips (the metal ring with a screw in the middle), put the clips loosesly on to the two pipes connect them together with the connector & move the clips to the end of the hose & tighten them, don't forget the hose needs to go up before it goes into the drain, best of luck.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

No. If you glue it you won't be able to take it apart again (as you'll need to do if you ever move the machine)
As previously said, the drain hose extender from eBay and another length of flexi hose similar to the one fitted to the machine with approp number of jubilee clips..... and follow the maker's instructions on how to connect it to the permanent plumbing.0
