The Housing Act 1988 section 5(3)(e) created Statutory Periodic Tenancies and specifies 2 months notice ending with a rental period by the LL on the tenant (in a monthly SPT).

However it is silent on how much notice a tenant must give a landlord.

To resolve this, Lane Vs Cadwallader (2001) Court of Appeal, established that notice by a tenant must be one month also ending with a rental period, based on common law.
