Anyone know about LRC limited?

Options
Yesterday I received this text message on my mobile:

URGENT:Call us on 08448588888 or go to https://www.lrc-payments.com to make a payment asap. Ref 5424/4(xxx)

I went on their website and entered the reference no. The response was this: Please retry - you didn't enter a reference we recognise

Now after this I did something pretty stupid, I called the phone number on my house phone, but there was no reply. That was yesterday. However today, while I was out one of my parents received a message from them asking for me in person (they had my initials and surname) and that I know who he was and that he had sent me emails... which he hasn't- only 1 text message.

I have no real clue what this could be about. A hunch is that it could be for some utility bills for a shared student house I had 3 years ago, which I did pay my share for but others didn't, I think. I wasn't in charge of that account but am fairly sure my name was one of the four on the contract.

Any ideas?

    Typical bottom end debt collector.

It's not up to you to have a hunch what this might be about.

Until they inform you in writing what it's about, ignore them. Not quite so easy to do that once you've phoned them and given them your landline number.

When they write, respond with a prove-it

They have probably been trying to contact a dozen people with your surname and initial and just waited for someone to take the bait.

There's still a good chance this isn't anything to do with you.

WHOIS information for the website gives a company name and address:

    Legal Recoveries Collections Limited

    greggpinchess@legalrecoveries.com

    10 George Street
    Hockley
    Nottingham
    NG1 3BE

It is going to be tough, but you really need to ignore this lot unless you get a demand in writing. They are fishing and the more of a bite they get the more pressure they will put on.

If the texts and calls persist I would probably write to them and ask them to remove records of phone numbers under the data protection act.

    Their registered address is:
    Registered Address:
    Legal Recoveries & Collections Ltd
    LRC House
    Huntingdon Court
    1 Fulforth Street
    Nottingham
    NG1 3BF

Here's some ammunition. It's up to you when and if you use it.

Once you've made the request (in writing, recorded delivery, keep a copy) you can then complain if it persists.

It's one step at a time with cases like this.

Thanks for all your help and also Lensman. I'm guessing they're now going to be calling my landline- So should I just answer and tell them said person doesn't live here anymore.

I'm not sure If I mentioned in the OP, but if it was for the student accomodation utility bills, this would have been from 4 years ago.. Wow! Time really does fly by (when you're not being chased by debt collectors, that is:p)

No, if/when they phone you tell them that you require all communication to be in writing.

Then if they phone again, you can send the letter.

I know it's only a tenner, but I don't want to pay a company that can't even spell their name right on MY Bank statement. They spell it as Webbiling. It seems they really don't know how to Bill people afterall :rotfl:
Sorry dude, but you lost my sympathy here.

There are a lot of people on here whose lives are being broken by debt collectors. People who hide in bathrooms when someone knocks on the door and live in fear of getting in from shopping/work to find another sh*tty letter on the doormat.

My phone has been off the hook for a week now because a DCA has been trying to phone me and I got paralysed. It took 3 days of stress and fear for me to get the courage up to write a "do not phone" letter and my work suffered as a result. The phone will stay off the hook now until I think they have processed my request.

Because I have a bit of energy spare I have recently been trying to help those out here who have no energy spare. People who literally live in fear.

    You are disputing a tenner...

[STRIKE]TBH I would be willing to pay that for you just so that you will get lost and stop wasting the time of those us that are trying to help people in real trouble.[/STRIKE]
EDIT - this forum is for support and not judgement. Apologies for the judgement...

I had the exact same message yesterday. I have had nothing in writing and have no idea what it's about. Do you suggest I just ignore it?
