How do IFAs find an IFA for themselves - unbiased maybe?
And what do you ask them to ensure you will be getting the best advice, and how much do you pay foe this advice
just thought us common lot may get some insight as to what we should do for some financial advice.

It's like the old question about who a barber gets to cut their hair.insight as to what we should do for some financial advice.
Read books, ask questions, expand your knowledge, and question everything.
I'm happy (hmmm, just) to pay for input from professionals, but ultimately this is something that adults need to accept is their ultimate responsibility.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
My thoughts exactly. What an odd question.
No, it isn't.
You can get too caught up in your own thinking and need different/contrarian views to question what your doing.
Companies have non-execs for good reason.

I think it's more like asking a mechanic who they get to service their car. Realistically there's no point in paying someone to do something you do for a living for you unless there's a major barrier (i.e. being unable to see the back of your own head well enough to cut it).I am a Chartered Financial Planner

IFAs invest in portfolios picked by monkeys. you need a license to keep a monkey, and there are lots of complex regulations you have to follow. if you want your monkey to handle a pin (necessary if it is going to pick stocks), then there are (quite reasonably) additional safety precautions required. very few ppl other than IFAs can afford to keep monkeys, and they are also experts at comply with complex regulations.0

None of us can see the backs of our own heads, nor is reflection usually sufficient to know what happens within.

Perhaps they tell the punters to put the bulk in equities but then put most of their own in cash ?No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
