Just had an offer accepted...what next?

We're chain free, as are the vendors.

It's quite an old house, so planning on having a full structural survey.

Solicitor said wait until we have a draft contract and deed of title before arranging survey. Is this necessary, and how long should it take before we get that?

Also need to arrange mortgage, but don't want to pay fees if survey comes back with a list of problems.

What is the best order to do things?

Aiming for a 8 week completion. Also need to give 2 months notice on rental propety.

Help!

If findings from survey may lead you to consider pulling out, get that instructed (and carried out) before anything else. Bear in mind it can be a week or so before they go out and then around 2 weeks after that for our report to arrive. I think draft contracts had arrived by then, but the title wasn't being checked until after that.

Can't help on the mortgage part as we're very luckily buying mortgage free but if you're looking at 8 weeks from start to finish, not sure you can afford to wait up to 3 of those before things are moving on.

Don't even think about giving notice on rental property without mortgage offer and survey done (and ideally after exchange). If one or both is problematic, you might end up homeless or sofa surfing with possessions in storage

Hope the survey isn't too bad hun.

I second arbrighton - don't give your notice until you exchange as until then any completion date (your moving date) isn't fixed
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

although Im not needing a mortgage

we didnt receive the contract for at least 4 wks, so Im glad I didnt wait for that first

Exactly- why spend money with sol if survey is going to bring up something you are not prepared to deal with.

That's also reminded me that the first draft contract sent to our sol was wrong in some way so had to be sent back.
