Buyer not home to collect parcel, RM sent it back to me..

Sent an item middle of May, buyer went on holiday a week later for a fortnight. They messaged asking if item was posted as there was no card from The post office saying there was a parcel for them. Item has since been returned to me by the post office, what do I do now?
I think the buyer wants me to resend, waiting on them replying back confirming this. Can I claim the first delivery back from the post office as I'm now having to be redelivery? If they had left a card then the buyer would have collected before they went on holiday x,

The post office did their job correctly as far as they are concerned, Its not their fault your buyer was not there to receive it.
Why did it take more than a week to get to them?
I think you will have to refund the buyer or send it again.
Either way you will likely be out of pocket. Swings and roundabouts etc.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I don't think it did take a week to get to them, it was posted the morning after payment by RM standard parcel, which I think it 3 days. Buyer is saying they didn't get a card, so didn't check with the post office collections office, went on holiday a week after buying, guess they thought I was slow with posting (even though I marked it as sent the morning after payment.
Anyway, swings and roundabouts and all that

Whether or not they went on holiday is immaterial. I've ordered things before now from a hotel room and received them when I've returned from holiday; I've also tried to chase up items I thought might be delivered promptly but given the seller the benefit of the doubt as I was ordering the item, expecting it to be received before I left but not got it straight away (or within a reasonable time after payment) and it's usually been waiting for me when I get back. People order online in all sorts of circumstances and it's your job to get the item to them.
Since they don't appear to have been carded, it's not really their fault they didn't know where it was. It's not really a question of 'fault'; you as the seller are still, unfortunately, liable to the buyer if they have no item and no money.
It's also immaterial now how you sent it. It didn't get to the intended recipient.

My postman rarely leaves a card. Cant wait for the next postal strike.
My service actually improved during the strike.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My opinion is slightly different.
They knew they purchased an item.
They knew they had paid for it
They knew the date of dispatch.
They knew they were going on holiday.
They did not bother to ask the seller to hold onto the parcel till they came back.
In my opinion its their own own the parcel was not collected from the PO as they should have spoken up sooner.
The buyer should therefore pay the postage to resend the item.

items are retained for 18 days
buyer went on holiday a week after paying
sounds more like the buyer didnt bother to collect the item before going away and had no keepsafe in force.
had many a rant from people regarding items being sent back while they were on holiday. As if RM (and will folks ever work out its Royal Mail not Post Office?) should have some sixth sense when folks are on holiday.0 -
Problem is if buyer refuses and opens an INR claim they will just get a full refund, including the original postage paid- so saying what 'should' happen is often not useful on ebay.CouponWoman wrote: »My opinion is slightly different.
