Am i right to be a little annoyed?

I hope this ends up where i am expecting it too! On the 4th of May i had a WEM from Stylenest to inform my that i had won £250 worth of childrens clothes from DKNY. Wow!, I was very pleased. I patiently waited to hear more , but after a wait (19th of June) I decided to e-mail and kindly ask what would be happening re my prize. I received an e-mail back from Stylenest to say that they should have contacted me by now and she would get onto it. Sure enough an hour later i had an e-mail from DKNY asking me to go on the House of Fraser website and choose my clothes. Off i go , all excited, but when i got there it was getting to the end of the summer sale ( the prize was to be picked from the summer collection) and there was literally nothing left!! I emailed DKNY and said " look, theres nothing left but 2 t-shirts now, What am i supposed to do?" They emailed back to say "sorry but the sale started early and you can only choose from this collection!" What do you think? Am i being unreasonable? My arguement is that had i been contacted sooner i would have been able to use my lovely prize to its advantage. I cant decide whether im being ungrateful or not??

No, you are not being ungrateful, I would be mad too. You only want what was promised, if the sale started early they should have contacted you early and given you the opportunity to choose from the full range. What they have done really isn't fair and frankly, for such big company names, I am surprised at their behaviour.

I don't think you're being unreasonable at all, this sounds like a clever bit of working around actually rewarding a prize as advertised.

I think the only thing i can do is to take the two t-shirts that are available and ask them to send the rest to charity or something, (i think there is also a couple of little boys bits left, but nothing of any use to me) . I enter competitions that are of use to my family, I dont really agree with selling stuff that ive won. The lady from DKNY has emailed me back with a picture of a scarf thats about 50 pounds, but my daughter doesnt wear scarfs like that, the lady also said that i couldnt have the tshirts at the sale price ( even though theyre in the sale ) and that the full price would be taken off my winnings!

I don't think you are unreasonable. That is really annoying. If I were you i would personally keep on at them! and maybe try to get something else either vouchers or at least a little cash to go shopping.

It is their fault for not contacting you so don't feel bad for feeling disheartened. Hope you have an extra special win to make up for this.

I think this is shameful behaviour and I don't know who you are speaking to at DKNY but I think you need to go back to Stylenest and explain what has happened and how upset you are by all this.

Surely they should allow you to choose your prize from the next season instead then? How mean spirited.

If that is all they will allow and there is plenty of stock of the two t-shirts, if I were you I would use up all of your winnings, then sell them on ebay and buy something you do like. It may not go with your usual ethics, but they are not playing fair.
  • That's awful :( The prize isn't as described so you could probably complain to the someone at advertising standards?! (or whoever monitors competitions) about it.
If I cared what everyone else thought, I'd be just like everyone else, and there's already too many of them. :A
