Balance Transfer Not Supported For This Card

in Credit cards
I have a Barclaycard. Empty but with credit available and a 0% balance transfer offer available online. I have an MBNA card with a 0% offer about to expire.
I login and go to the balance transfer area, it asks me to enter the amount (which is less than my available credit by a fair bit) the number of the card I want to do the balance transfer from (i.e. MBNA not the Barclaycard) and the expiry date. I enter the 16 digit MBNA card number plus the expiry date. Up comes the message "Ooops! Balance transfer not supported for this card".
MBNA and Barclaycard are separate companies. There is more than enough credit. Can anyone hazard a guess why MBNA is "not supported" as part of the Barclaycard BT offer???

Is it an mbna Amex card?
Yes, but I have two cards on the same account, one is an Amex and one is a regular MBNA Visa. I tried both the 16 digit MBNA Visa number and the shorter AMEX one and it wouldn't accept either.
Does the Amex somehow invalidate the Visa? Surely not!
PS I didn't ask for this. It used to be a regular Visa Platinum. The Amex bit was added later, at their behest, not mine.0 -
I don't know about invalidating it but it could be that it's primarily now an Amex account and the visa is just a back up. I think your best bet is to ring up Barclaycard and attempt the transfer over the phone, try and find an alternative phone number on 'say no to 0870'.0

Had the same problem online with a Virgin Atlantic MBNA Amex card. Called Barclaycard and did it over the phone no problem at all.0
