  • Then he needs to answer truthfully! Its not really a question that needs a lot of analysing, is it?
He has no intentions of lying and the question was not how do I answer...........
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

I was responding to the post I quoted, not whether the applicant (for what looks to be an office based role from the info in post #4) would be less appealing to the employer as a result of not having a driving licence - nobody can tell.

Of course, if the job involves photographing a murdered computer in a field in the middle of the night, requiring a tent to be put over it, then I would imagine a driving licence would be essential...(This was my thought too, considering he crosses all the ticks when it comes to all the other requirements) otherwise it might just be occasional travel to another office by bus.

I'd imagine if it was a show-stopper, they would make some reference to it in the job description.

I also don't think the OP was asking whether a truthful answer would be the best thing to put, just how much importance would be placed on having a licence.
At last someone who reads a post correctly, thank you :T:rotfl:

He has no intentions of lying at all and he is learning to drive. I should imagine there are going to be absolutely loads of applicants for this job so definitely not a good idea to get ones hopes up, but I do know he really wants this job.

    Crossing all fingers and toes:o

    He'll definitely need a license.

He'll be required to attend pretty much anywhere he's needed whether it's custody for a rape suspect or back street car park for a sudden death.

I really do wish him the best of luck. I work in this field as a HCP so although I'm not a SOCO I know how hard it is to break into. Does he have a background at all? Maybe did forensics at uni? He's really going to be up against tough competition. Hopefully he's got some experience/qualification to give him an edge

It is rare for any position not to have been advertised internally and often they know who will be getting the job, but they have to interview everyone and take extremal applications as well.
    He may get lucky !
    Fingers crossed.

I love the sound of an "extremal application"! :rotfl::rotfl:

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

Excuse my ignorance, but why would a computer forensics person be needed in either of the above circumstances?

Well apparently attention to detail is not one of my strong points :D

Sorry OP I didn't read the computer part. Ignore me!

He should stress that he is learning to drive in the cover letter or extra information part of the application and at interview. A driving license would be listed in the essential part of the person specification if it was required but it might still be preferred. The best he can do is show his eagerness to learn.

Do you know the hours and location of the job? If it is a 9-5 office job a license is probably less important than if it involves late nights and different locations.
